Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that cover the enamel and the dentin of the tooth, protecting it and also enhancing the beauty of the tooth. Most patients that are candidates for veneers are people that have small chips and nicks in their teeth or have worn dentition and are looking to enhance their smile. The process of putting on veneers usually entails two to three visits at our offices, whereby we take down the damaged enamel, have some impressions made, and, in our own laboratories, fabricate a shell of porcelain that gets bonded to the patient's natural tooth. The specific technology we use in the office is via the use of digital dentistry, otherwise known as CAD/CAM dentistry, whereby we digitally scan our patient's teeth prior to starting, during the treatment and after the treatment. We allow computer technology to help aid us and guide us in creating the most aesthetic enhancements possible. Some of the imperfections that veneers can correct are, for example, the spacing of your teeth, some chips, nicks in the enamel, discolorations or older fillings that have lost their luster and shade over the years of our patients' lives. Veneer patients are relatively happy about getting veneers because they've enhanced their smile and enhanced their life. It gives most people an increased level of self-confidence and takes years off their smile.
